Two holiday homes with securely fenced gardens for people who won’t leave their dogs behind. Not even three. Or seven.
Anyone travelling with several dogs knows the search: “pets on request”, then one dog at most, and please not in the living room. That is exactly what we struggled with for years – with our own, rather large pack of dogs.
So today we let two houses we would happily holiday in ourselves: with gardens that really are securely fenced, with dog beds and bowls inside, and with hosts who do not flinch when four dogs jump out of the car.
The Cotentin peninsula lies well away from the main tourist routes. Miles of beaches where dogs may run, a nature park full of migrating birds, D-Day history on the doorstep – and a fireplace in the evening.

Picauville · 5-star Meublé de Tourisme
A derelict barn has become a light-filled house of 170 m²: living room with gallery, kitchen with conservatory and a garden of 4,500 m² looking out over the marshland. There is a barrel sauna in the garden and a dog shower indoors.
Saint-Jores · 4-star Meublé de Tourisme
A 16th-century cooperage, restored with natural materials: stone walls, old beams, herringbone parquet, two fireplaces. In the garden a pond, a 13th-century ruin and an ancient oak.

1.80 m all round at Maison les Grues, 1.40 to 1.60 m plus dense hedges at La Benoîterie. Not “mostly fenced”.
Dogs cost nothing extra here. Dog beds, bowls, dog towels and waste bags are provided.
Maison les Grues has a stainless-steel dog shower with a ramp, plus clippers and a dryer. Very useful after the beach.

The Marais du Cotentin nature park begins behind the garden. In winter it turns into a lake landscape with thousands of migrating birds.
